"If childcare was more accessible and working more of a benefit- our children will have a more educated, social upbringing and also a better system could be put in place to protect children from abuse in the home which we have heard so much about lately. We need to see the benefits employment brings to parents and to our children and also the benefits childcare can have for our children."

"There is always discussion on benefits, stay at home parents etc. I would like to know what is going to happen to help working families.
I have read about parents being required to work after their children turn 7 which I completely agree with. There is no need for a parent to stay home whilst their children at at home all day. My question is in regard to those that do work. Because the income threshold (amount required to live) is so low, workers don't really receive much benefit from actually working when wages are so low. I think the threshold should be higher for workers so that a benefit can be seen to work rather than be on benefits. Many of my friends do not work simply because their rent, council tax etc is paid and also they can claim community care grants when needed for their children. There should be a guarantee that if you work, you will receive £so much above the benefits threshold to help with extra costs to help those working on low incomes. Free education should be offered for all up to a certain level."

Have you after coming to power had time to do something about the poverty in Africa? With the current economic situation, will the world forget about the less fortunate children in Africa?"

"With the economic financial situation as it is, a lot of people are losing their homes. As selfish as it sounds, we have been on our local "housing association" list since 2005, and have waited patiently to get a home of our own. At present myself, my partner and our two children are living with my elderly parents, and as you can imagine its crowded, in fact the house is bursting at the seams!
Do you plan to build / create more social housing / affordable housing within the Runcorn area within the near future, which may give us a chance of getting our dream home soon. I just feel we will keep getting pushed to the back of the list and that people who have "lost" their home will get the houses that become available. I know they probably need a home more desperately than we do i.e. they will not want to go into hostels etc.. But we are in a not very nice situation too.
We both work, my partner and I, we just cannot afford to get onto the property ladder, therefore social / affordable housing is our only option.
I hope you take the time to read this and respond in good faith. Thank you Mr. Brown.

then you wonder why there is such an issue with obesity, start comparing your prices if people having got the sort of money to buy healthy food there going to buy junk food if its on offer or low prices.it cost me over 20 pound to go and buy some chicken breasts and salad in asda but only 3 pound for a pack of chips and burgers.its getting stupid.we want are children to eat healthy not be obeise but cannot afford the stupid prices like 1.69 for a cuecumber come on.sorry to go on but it annoys me so much"

"When are the Banks going to start sensible lending again? Also stop putting up interest rates on loans already agreed to such a crippling extent that companies are forced into liquidation and more people enter the unemployment market? I thought majority State owned businesses were controlled by the State and therefore did as directed by Government? This does not appear to be happening. Is it not a foregone conclusion that unless we get Banks lending again the recession will deepen further?"

"Mr Brown, are you and your government prepared to help 2 parent families keep their heads above water during this "economic downturn"? As a 2 parent family where we both work, we are entitled to no help at all with the charges for nursery as our income is "too high". I might add that the council has refused to grant my daughters nursery the ability to give us free nursery education for over 3's, as they have less than 8 children in her class 1 day of the week, and also because there are 2 nurseries near by that have been granted this (which have no places). We are past the threshold for help by only a couple of thousand but are treated the same as someone who earns 50K. Where is the logic in this?
It is a disgrace to penalise hard working tax paying families. I love my job and have worked since the age of 15yrs yet my partner and I are seriously considering if it is worth our while actually working as financially we would be far better off on benefits. Our only other option is to de-fraud the benefits system ( I am NOT prepared to do that) What type of government leaves hard working families no other options than to de-fraud the benefits system or give up work and sponge off the state. Please Mr Brown give us some kind of hope for the future.
Thank you."

Don’t forget the environment
It is pointed out that there is now almost no mention of the problems of global warming, yet the recession is a relatively short term problem compared with climate change! What can we do to re-build an economy that doesn’t rely on oil? And alongside that, a number of Netmums members ask what practical suggestions are there for improving rented and council housing? For example, for many families in rented housing, can we set higher standards for landlords to make our homes more energy efficient?"

Cost of living
Netmums members are concerned about the cost of living and point to the fact that Council tax has been going up each year, and now wages are going down and it’s very hard to make ends meet. Do you expect local council tax to continue to rise, or can something be done about that? Will you look at raising the thresholds, for tax credits and so on, to take account of cost of living rises?"

"What is going to be done about reducing the huge amount of borrowing that has been deemed "necessary" to bail out the banks? Currently the private sector (with the exception of bankers) is bearing the brunt of the depression. My husbands pension fund that he has be contributing to for the past 10 years has currently lost 30% with probably more to go. Steps should be taken to reduce the huge public sector and to get rid of their gold plated pensions. MPs should lead by example and have a pay (and expenses) freeze for the foreseeable future - after all if we are heading for a period of deflation perhaps that should be a pay cut!"
