Question

  1. Gordon Brown, I am a stay at home mum looking after 3 children, ages 3, 5 and 7.  I am the best person to look after MY children.  I intend to return to work when they are all in full time education.

My husband has to work very hard to maintain us all.  This year he will pay a total of 15.8k in tax.  If I too were working and we were earning the same amount of money jointly we would pay 9.6k tax in total.

So it is costing us as a family 6.2k for me to stay at home because we are married, together and creating stable environment for our babies.  That extra 6.2k is going to your Labour Government.

Incidentally, I have 10k+ to pay back to the tax credit office as THEY made a mistake for 2.5 years, which I have in wiriting as being their fault but I still have to pay it back, so don't tell me how marvellous your tax credit system is.

And yes my husband has earnt a good amount this year, but it is a one off and next year he will earn half that.

And before you say ..." I can't comment on the individual circumstances ..."  I dare you!  Comment on my circumstances.

My children are my responsibility not the responsibility of a child minder, but we are paying 6.2k to society for me look after my own children.

Is it fair that the government benefits from 6.2k of our money if I don't work for money but work hard to bring up well educated, civilised, good citizens?  Why can't we benefit from my unused personal tax allowance and my unused percentage rates?

    Miranda, Altrincham
